At the same time, it was the vegetable sector of agricultural production that suffered the most as a result of military aggression, because about 25% of vegetables were grown in the southern and eastern regions, which are still temporarily occupied. In just one year, according to the State Statistics Service, prices for vegetables rose by 34%, which makes them less affordable for many consumers. Therefore, vegetables grown on homesteads are important for stabilizing the food security situation of communities during martial law. In January, the Bayer company announced its readiness to transfer 530 kg of carrot seeds and more than 350 tons of corn seeds to farmers for free through the USAID Initiative to Support the Sustainability of the Agricultural Sector (AGRI-Ukraine).
