Paraguay Ready to Take Leap to Foot-and-Mouth Disease-Free Status

The National Service of Animal Quality and Health (Senacsa) reaffirmed its position that Paraguay is in conditions to stop vaccinating against foot-and-mouth disease, considering that most countries in the region have achieved free status without vaccination and that this is the next step for national production, after almost 60 years of vaccination. Senacsa's president, José Carlos Martin, informed the media that Senacsa's stance is based on technical, economic, operational, and scientific reasons, and that Paraguay must advance its status to consolidate itself in already conquered markets, as well as obtain equally demanding ones. In the region, countries like Brazil and Bolivia have already achieved the status, while in Argentina, only the north continues with the condition of being free of foot-and-mouth disease with vaccination.
