Peru's President Dina Boluarte has extended a state of emergency in the capital, Lima, and in other areas of the country affected by protests calling for her resignation. Ongoing clashes between police and protesters have left around 50 people dead and hundreds injured. Roadblocks are causing delays in fruit picking and processing as workers cannot reach farms, while produce is also being transported from major regions of cultivation at ports face severe disruptions. The Association of Agricultural Producers Guild of Peru (Agap) estimates export losses of crops including table grapes, blueberries, mangoes and avocados at about $250 million and notes that investments in the agricultural sector have completely ceased since the beginning of the political crisis.
