The Ministry of Agrarian Development and Irrigation (MIDAGRI) has formed a Working Group to address the national phytosanitary emergency caused by Fusarium Oxysporum f. sp. cubense Race 4 Tropical in banana crops, as per Ministerial Resolution No. 0301-2024-MIDAGRI. Led by Vice Minister Christian Garay Torres, the group will implement strategic actions to mitigate the pest's damage and prevent its spread, with an Action Plan to be presented on September 19. The group includes representatives from various agricultural organizations and government bodies, with SENASA as Technical Secretary. Since the pest's detection in Piura in 2021, SENASA has been actively involved in surveillance, sampling, quarantine, and control measures to protect the country's banana and plantain crops.
