The previous record was recorded last year: according to EastFruit analysts, imports of marketable potatoes to Uzbekistan in 2020 amounted to 421 thousand tons, which, in turn, was almost one and a half times higher than in the previous year. Potatoes have become the main import item in Uzbekistan's fruit and vegetable sector over the past few years. Until 2016, the annual import volume of potatoes did not exceed 50 thousand tons per year, and in 2017 the import of these products amounted to 194 thousand tons. Accordingly, from 2017 to 2021, the volume of imports increased 2.7 times. In order to reduce the volume of potato imports, the republic plans to dramatically increase the area of potato sowing next year.
