Potato cultivation, reported by the Andalusian Phytosanitary Alert and Information Network, is widely spread in Spain, with some 65,500 ha dedicated to this solanaceous plant, offering our land, Andalusia, with almost 9,600 ha, thanks to its weather, tubers almost all the year. 50% of the total potato area in Andalusia is in Seville, followed by Cádiz with 20%, and Malaga with 8%. Of the four types of potato that are sown in Andalusia (Extra-early, early, mid-season, and late), the “early potato”, sown between December and January, is the most important, with 55.3% of the surface area, followed by the “mid-season potato”, with 25.1%, whose sowing takes place between February and March.
