The Corío Port in southern Peru, promoted by the Regional Government of Arequipa, is emerging as a major project with the potential to become a leading port in South America and a rival to the Chancay Megaport. According to Mario Zúñiga, the technical secretary of the Regional Development Agency, Corío will consolidate Peru as the national port hub. Its location and depth make it a crucial connection to Asia and neighboring food exporting countries like Brazil. Zúñiga stresses the importance of national authorities overseeing the project's execution, highlighting its strategic potential for logistics and economic, political, and security interests.
