The Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs in South Korea is encouraging local governments to submit their plans for reducing rice cultivation areas by the end of February. The ministry has set a goal of reducing 80,000 hectares of farmland and has distributed reduction goals to local governments based on their rice production proportions. The ministry is also promoting institutional improvement to strengthen policy support and encourage participation in the rice cultivation area adjustment system. The system includes five types of plans such as agricultural land conversion, eco-friendly rice cultivation, and autonomous reduction. However, local government officials have raised concerns that the time given for inputting detailed implementation plans into computers is too short.
