Indian export prices of 5% broken panels stabilized at $525-535/ton for the second consecutive week, although still near the record high of $520-540/ton reached on August 31. India has imposed a 20% tax on parboiled rice exports since August, a new restriction on non-basmati rice. A Mumbai-based dealer said the export of broken rice and white rice is currently banned and parboiled rice buyers do not want to pay the above 20% tax. Therefore, trading activities of this type of rice are slowing down in India. Vietnam's 5% broken rice was offered at 610-620 USD/ton, slightly lower than 620-630 USD/ton last week. A trader based in Ho Chi Minh City commented that the Philippines' recent move to impose a rice price ceiling may have impacted Vietnam's rice export price.
