In the 2022/23 season (July 2022 - June 2023), wheat imports to Algeria are forecast to reach 8.2 million tons, the highest since the 2016/17 season, when imports reached 8.4 million tons. The forecast is based on projected production and stable consumer demand. Trade Data Monitoring (TDM) data, based on customs information from markets exporting wheat to Algeria, shows that Algeria imported just 1.8 million tons of wheat in July-November 2022, compared to 3.2 million tons imported to July-November 2021. However, TDM data does not currently reflect wheat imports from Russia. Trade reports show that OAIC typically purchases wheat of non-mandatory origin, which means that traders can supply wheat of any origin as long as it meets the other requirements set out in the tender.
