Russia proposes bill to limit industrial cod fishing in Far East

Proposed measures to protect cod include a ban on longline fishing until March 2025 and restrictions on bottom trawling and purse seine fishing until mid-April. However, the fishing industry opposes these measures, arguing they will negatively affect the catch of other commercially valuable fish. The Association of Fisheries Enterprises of the Primorsky Region (ARRP) has expressed concerns, stating that while they understand the need to protect cod, they do not agree with a blanket ban on specific fishing gear.
