Russia: Red caviar hits historic prices as holidays approach

Salmon eggs, or red caviar, have reached historic prices in Russia, where this dish is a staple on the tables for the holiday season, despite an increase in caught salmon. The retail price of a kilogram of red caviar has thus exceeded the mark of 5,000 rubles (60 euros at the current rate), the highest price since the start of price monitoring in 2000, according to data from the statistical agency.
