Rwanda sees 34 percent increase in coffee exports in 2022

According to the National Agricultural Export Development Board (NAEB) report, Rwanda's coffee export earnings increased by 34% to over US$105 million (about Rwf 114 billion) in 2022. With this performance, the country has already surpassed the goal of generating US$ 95 million annually with coffee exports by 2024. However, according to the report, there was a small increase of 2% in the amount of coffee that the country exported, from 17,479 tons in 2021 to 17,848 tons in 2022. This indicated that revenue growth was mainly driven by good coffee prices, which averaged US$5.58 per kg in 2022, or an increase of 31.2% from US$4.48 per kg in the year previous. The rise in coffee prices on the international market was also felt locally, with farmers earning more from their products.
