In 2023, Ukraine saw a significant decrease in its corn harvest, with a reduction of 26% in volume and 12% in acreage due to economic reasons such as low export demand and more profitable crops. The country also experienced a shift in planted areas towards the west, with the Rivne and Volyn regions having the largest harvest areas. Despite the mild winter, the condition of the crops is not uniform due to spring moisture deficiencies in most regions, except the west. The yields of wheat and barley are also down from the previous year, but in line with the long-term average. UkrAgroConsult predicts a rye harvest of 205 thsd tonnes in 2024, which should meet domestic needs but is not expected to lead to significant exports. The European Commission anticipates a 1% decrease in the EU's rye harvest, leading to potential price growth in the market.
