Between January and April 2025, São Paulo's agribusiness sector saw a decrease in exports by 11.6% to US$8.70 billion, despite an increase in imports by 6.5% to US$1.98 billion. This resulted in a trade balance of US$6.72 billion, a 15.3% decrease from the previous year. Exports made up 40.7% of the state's total exports, with the sugar and alcohol complex being the largest contributor. There was an increase in purchases from China and the United States for products such as soybeans, meats, and forestry products. Despite São Paulo's decline, Brazilian agribusiness experienced slight growth, with national exports totaling US$52.74 billion, a 1.4% increase from the previous year.
