Vietnam: Seafood exports in the first quarter of 2023 are estimated at over 1.8 billion USD

Seafood exports down 24% in March In March 2023 alone, seafood exports were estimated at US$780 million, down 24% compared to the same period in 2022. Exports of key products still fell 8%-39%. In which, shrimp exports decreased by 39%, pangasius decreased by 23%, tuna decreased by 33%, squid and octopus decreased by 8%. However, exports of other marine fish species still grew by 11% year-on-year. By the end of the first quarter, shrimp exports brought in USD 577 million (down 40% over the same period), pangasius reached USD 447 million (down 32%) and tuna reached USD 179 million (down 31%). Export of squid and octopus also decreased by more than 8% over the same period to 54 million USD. Particularly, the export of marine fish species still increased slightly by 3% to USD 435 million. The world market is still heavily affected by inflation and economic slowdown, which reduces consumption and import demand and also reduces import prices.
