The European Union (EU) has extended the deadlines for enforcing its Regulation for Deforestation-Free Products (EUDR), originally set to be implemented by December 30, 2024. The regulation, which prohibits the import of products from areas deforested after December 2020, now applies to large rural companies from December 30, 2023, and to micro and small companies by June 30, 2026. Producers with a certificate of compliance issued by the SeloVerde MG platform are already in compliance with the regulations. The platform, developed by UFMG in partnership with the Government of Minas Gerais, verifies compliance with national legislation, traceability, and socio-environmental criteria for exporting agricultural commodities. It has received interest from private companies and coffee cooperatives.
