The National Agrarian Health Service (Senasa) has successfully eradicated the fruit fly pest in Piura, Peru, significantly improving pest control in the region. The MTD recordings have dropped to 0.004 in 69,480 hectares of fruit and vegetable crops, benefiting over 33,000 producers. This breakthrough has established Piura as a leading region in mango production and export, as well as boosting the production of grapes and blueberries for both national and international markets. The project, conducted from 2019 to 2024, involved collaboration with local authorities, producers, and agro-exporters, and has been crucial in mitigating a major pest that can cause up to a 40% loss in production.
