The price of potatoes in Serbia has increased by 193% since 2021 due to last year's drought and large-scale imports, which have discouraged domestic cultivation. According to Agro-Mobile company director Ratko Vukićević, the potato harvest in 2020 had set a new record and growers were using potatoes to feed livestock or throwing them away.

Last year's drought caused a significant drop in supply as huge quantities of potatoes were imported, Vukićević added. He said that in 2020, wholesalers sold a kilo of potatoes for 15 to 20 RSD (€ 0.12 to € 0.17) and that they could not be sold, so the producers threw them away, and that a kilo of potatoes last year was about 50 RSD (€0.42).
