Spanish fruit and vegetable exports grow 5% in value in the first quarter despite falling 2% in volume

(Agraria.pe) In the first quarter of 2022, Spanish fruit and vegetable exports stood at 3.7 million tons and €4,888 million, registering a 2% year-on-year decrease in volume but a 5% growth in value, according to data from the Department of Customs and Special Taxes, processed by the Spanish Federation of Associations of Exporting Producers of Fruits and Vegetables (FEPEX). Regarding the volume contraction, it has occurred both in vegetables, with 3% less and 1.9 million tons, and in fruits, with 1% less and 1.7 million tons. On the other hand, vegetables have led the greatest increase in value with a growth of 10%, standing at €2,692 million, while fruit has stabilized, with €2,195 million (-0.2%). The vegetables most sold abroad in the analyzed period were peppers, with €545 million, tomatoes with €467 million, cucumber with €368 million, lettuce with €335 million, cabbage with €285 million and courgette with €174 million.
