Spanish fruit and vegetable imports take off

In 2022, Spanish imports of fresh fruit and vegetables increased by 7% in volume and 15% in value. According to data released by the Customs and Excise Department of the Tax Agency of Spain and processed by Fepex, last year the volume of imports reached 3.8 million tons, which correspond to 3.76 billion euros. Imports of vegetables recorded the highest growth, with a 14% increase in volume - to 1.8 million tons - and an increase also in value (+32%), which brought them to 1.17 billion tons EUR. This trend was driven by the increase in volumes of potatoes, equal to one million tons (+20%) and by the increase in value, equal to 364 million euros (+55%). Tomato imports also grew both in value, by 32%, equal to 206 million euros, and in volume, by +5%, thus recording 188,058 tons. In the fruit segment, imports totaled 2 million tons (+ 1%), for a value of 2.59 billion euros (+9%).
