About 250 producers, technicians and leaders from 19 municipalities participated in the Second Field Day of the Mandioca Renda Project, in Janiópolis, last week. The objective was to disseminate cassava cultivars, as well as to evaluate the performance of these materials in the Center-West region. Other topics addressed by researchers at this meeting were fertility and soil correction and fertilization of the cassava crop. Researchers from Embrapa and IDR-Paraná participated in the activity. The cassava production chain has great economic and social importance in the municipality. In the 2019/2020 harvest, 600 hectares were cultivated, with the involvement of 40 families. The average productivity of the crops reached 18 ton/ha. Janiópolis has an agro-industry of manioc derivatives with a capacity to receive 60 tons of roots/day, generating 50 jobs with the outsourcing of the harvest.
