As reported by the State Statistical Office in Bad Ems based on preliminary results, an average of 84.2 tonnes of sugar beet per hectare was harvested (plus 43 percent compared to the previous year, which was characterized by drought). This means that the yield level is almost 20 percent above the six-year average from 2015 to 2020. Last year, sugar beets were grown on a good 16,100 hectares, mainly in Rheinhessen and the Palatinate. The harvest amounted to almost 1.4 million tons. Compared to the six-year average from 2015 to 2020, this corresponds to an increase of 9.5 percent. In addition to the mass yield, the sugar content in the beet plays a decisive role.
