Thailand and Vietnam cooperate to fight illegal fishing

Previously, the two countries set up a joint working group on combating illegal fishing and bilateral cooperation in agriculture and aquaculture. In addition, they agreed to complete the procedures for signing the Red Line Agreement between the two countries, as well as procedures related to trade in agricultural products, including mango, longan, lychee and mangosteen.
At a press briefing following a regular meeting of the Thai Government held on February 15, Deputy Thai Government Spokesperson Ratchada Thanadirek stated that the Thai Government had agreed to sign a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the Department of Fisheries of the Ministry of Agriculture and the Cooperatives of Thailand and the Ministry of Agriculture and Viet Nam Rural Development Cooperation on Information Exchange to Combat Illegal Fishing. The Memorandum of Understanding is scheduled to be signed at the 7th meeting of the Thailand-Vietnamese Joint Working Group on Combating Illegal Fishing, which will be held in March 2023 in Vietnam. According to Ratchada, through this document, the two countries will exchange information on illegal fishing, especially on fishing vessels crossing territorial waters, as well as on the certificate of origin and exploitation of resources to prevent illegal catch from entering production chains.
