The salmon fishing season of 2023 could be one of the best observations in recent times, Ilya Shestakov, head of the Federal Agency for Fisheries, said at a press conference. According to forecasts of the department, the catch may be more than 500 thousand tons. In 2022, 271 thousand tons of salmon were harvested, and in 2021 - 539 thousand tons. Also, the Federal Agency for Fishery predicts an increase in aquaculture by 3-5%. Even in 2022, a difficult year, it was possible to increase the production of marketable fish by 8%, to 383 thousand tons. After the imposition of sanctions, Russia faced problems in importing fish feed - it had to quickly switch to supplies from friendly countries. For this reason, it was decided to introduce a new state support measure - compensation for the costs of building fish feed factories, which will help get rid of import dependence within two to three years.
