The European Commission (EC) lowered its forecast for this year's corn and sunflower harvest. Expected wheat volumes are also lower. Vote: What are your average wheat yields for 2022? Initially, the forecast for this year's wheat crop was 125 million tons, but the drought changed the figures to 123.9 million tons. For comparison, in 2021, European grain producers harvested 130.1 million tons. The commission now sees the EU maize crop reaching no more than 65.8 million tonnes, compared with 71.7 million tonnes forecast at the end of June and 72.7 million tonnes harvested last year. The reduction in the forecast mainly reflects expectations for lower yields in Germany, Spain, France, Italy, Hungary, Romania and Slovakia. Taking into account the damage caused by the drought, the EC also lowered forecasts for the oilseeds harvested in the Union to 10.5 million tonnes from 11.1 million tonnes earlier.
