The EU and Mauritius renew fundamental fishing agreement for the canning industry

The conclusion of the negotiations in this fifth round will allow the entry into force of the agreement as of October 5, after the necessary extension of six months of the last protocol to give it continuity. The new protocol, which has a duration of 4 years, maintains conditions similar to those of the previous protocol, very beneficial for the Spanish fleet, which has a special interest in landings in Port Louis. The protocol offers fishing opportunities for 40 purse-seine vessels and 45 community longliners, of which 22 and 12 respectively are Spanish (Basque tuna vessels and Galician surface longliners), which catch tropical tuna in these waters, such as yellowfin, skipjack or bigeye.
