The European Commission has announced plans to impose customs tariffs on certain agricultural products and nitrogen fertilizers from Russia and Belarus. This move, supported by Ukraine, Lithuania, and Poland, aims to foster domestic production and bolster the EU's fertilizer industry. The proposal, which needs approval from the European Parliament and the Council of the EU, will result in all agricultural imports from Russia being subjected to European tariffs. The move is seen as a means to mitigate the impact of the energy crisis and encourage diversification of fertilizer supplies from other countries. The tariffs will affect 15% of agricultural imports from Russia.
