European Fisheries Commissioner, Costas Kadis, is starting his first official visit to Spain, where he will discuss the reform of the Common Fisheries Policy (CFP) and the reduction in days at sea for Mediterranean trawlers with the Spanish Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food, Luis Planas, and various fishing and aquaculture organizations. Kadis' visit comes after his controversial debut in the EU Council, where he negotiated a 79% reduction in days at sea for the Mediterranean trawler fleet, leading to protests. The visit also occurs during the debate on the CFP reform, which the fleet is pushing for to be more socially responsible and adaptable to challenges like climate change and generational change. The European Commission is currently taking public consultation on the CFP revision.
