The Government of the Region of Murcia has sent a letter to the Ministry for the Ecological Transition and the Demographic Challenge, formally requesting a moratorium on the closure of the aquifers in the Segura basin until at least the year 2033. This was announced this Thursday by the spokesperson for the regional government, Marcos Ortuño, during the press conference following the meeting of the Council of Government. The spokesperson pointed out that "the most important thing is that this moratorium can be carried out if there is political will, because the Water Framework Directive contemplates this extension when there are technical and economic reasons that prevent meeting the objectives in 2027." Ortuño added that "in this case, those reasons exist and are more than evident."
