The Poland-Ukraine trade balance has deteriorated significantly

The value of agri-food exports to Ukraine in 2022 amounted to EUR 945 million, and imports to EUR 2 billion, 741 million; the trade balance has deteriorated significantly - noted Dr. Hab. On Monday, September 18 this year, the authorities in Kiev announced that they had filed a complaint with the World Trade Organization (WTO) against Poland, Hungary and Slovakia in connection with the extension of the embargo on Ukrainian agricultural products by these countries. On Tuesday, a WTO spokesman confirmed in response to a question from Reuters that the Organization had received a complaint from Ukraine regarding the ban on food imports from that country. He pointed out that from a formal point of view, this is a request for consultations and therefore the first step in legal proceedings. Also on Tuesday, the Deputy Minister of Economy and Trade of Ukraine, Taras Kaczka, in an interview with "Rzeczpospolita" signaled that within the next few days Ukraine will introduce an embargo on Polish onions, tomatoes, cabbage and apples.
