The purchase prices of sunflowers in the EU are 60% higher than in Bulgaria

The purchase prices of sunflower in our country have almost equaled last year's and are only 2.3% above them. This is shown by the latest data of the SAPI agency from August 3 of this year. As of the indicated date, sunflower was sold for BGN 1,050 per ton after a weekly growth of 13.5%, but also a monthly drop of 1.6%. The biggest annual jump of 82.7 percent was noted for fodder barley, whose last price was BGN 601. Only fodder barley and fodder wheat have a monthly increase. Feed wheat is 81.5% more expensive compared to last year. At the beginning of August, the average price of the most common wheat in our country was BGN 617. Bread wheat is holding BGN 634, which is 81.1% above the price on August 3, 2021, when the energy crisis was just beginning and the world did not yet suspect that war was looming. After the big rebound of rape in the spring months, at the beginning of August the price has tamed down to BGN 1,149, which is 17 percent more compared to a year earlier.

Corn has become cheaper on a monthly basis by 5% and its current price is BGN 573/ton. If we look at European sunflower prices, we see a clear difference of about BGN 600 per ton in favor of EU producers. According to SAPI data, the European prices of oilseed sunflower are around 1,600 BGN per ton, which is 60% more than the Bulgarian prices. Most likely, this is due to the cheap import of Ukrainian sunflower, which was alarmed two months ago by the National Association of Grain Producers.
