Historically, the Argentine fields of the core zone showed some beautiful sunflowers, but about 15 years ago, other crops were gaining ground and little by little it was displaced to other regions. Today, the panorama changed again and fields in the northern center of Buenos Aires and southern Santa Fe with sunflowers on their land are beginning to be seen again. According to the latest (01/20/22) Weekly Agricultural Outlook of the Buenos Aires Cereal Exchange, 15,000 hectares were planted in the "north core" and 13,000 hectares were planted in the "south core", in the current sunflower campaign for which production of 3.5 million tons is projected. But if we take the previous campaign as an example, with the PAS of 01/21/2021, in the "north core" there were 10,500 hectares of sunflower, and in the "south core" 8,500 hectares. In other words, the lots that worked with this oilseed in the core zone went from 19,000 hectares in the 2020/21 campaign to 28,000 hectares in the 2021/22 cycle, showing a regional growth of 47.3%.
