Some 600 delegates from the Argentine Union of Rural Workers and Dock Workers (UATRE) will meet in Mendoza, within the framework of the 33rd Annual Congress of the union, to support their general secretary, José Voytenco, amid a fierce internal conflict with sectors aligned with the libertarian government. But at the same time, the agricultural union will issue a statement on the need for producers to increase the wages they pay for labor. Voytenco himself made this priority clear, stating that today most workers live in "misery". The minimum vital and mobile wage in Argentina is now 322 thousand pesos. A base wage for a registered rural worker starts at double that, and is close to 700 thousand pesos depending on the region and the activity. In a UATRE communication, Voytenco warned that at the UATRE Congress, the Roundtable (which groups the employers) will be asked to raise that minimum to no less than 1 million pesos.
