The Romanian port of Constanta has seen a significant decrease in the transshipment of Ukrainian grain transit cargoes, with a 52% drop in the first ten months of 2024 compared to the same period in 2023. This decline began a few months after the opening of the Ukrainian Maritime Corridor and was exacerbated by the seasonal shallowing of the Danube. In October, the port handled 1.6 million tons of grain cargo, with Ukraine contributing 31%. Since the start of the full-scale Russian invasion, 28.3 million tons of grain have been delivered from Ukraine in transit through Constanta, with nearly half of this volume being shipped in 2023.
