This year's result is around 15 tons per hectare or 19 percent below the (very high) harvest result from 2021. The long-term average for 2016/2021 was 4 tons or 6 percent below the total harvest for the harvest year 2022 to a total of 790,700 tons. Compared to the previous year, that was around 130,300 tons or 14 percent less sugar beet. According to the final result of the main land use survey, almost 12,500 hectares of sugar beets were cultivated in Thuringia in 2022. Compared to the previous year, the scope of cultivation increased again by 700 hectares or 6 percent. Around 2,000 hectares (19 percent) more sugar beets were planted compared to the long-term average of the years 2016/2021.
