Decrease in avocado harvest With about 30% of global production, Mexico is the largest avocado producer. As a result of profitability and increasing international demand, the area planted is still increasing by about three percent annually. Michoacán is the state where most of Mexico's avocado production takes place. It is also the only state with phytosanitary agreements to be able to export to the United States. Jalisco is the second most important avocado producing state. The harvest forecast for the 2021/2022 season, which runs from July to June, is 2.33 million tons of avocado.
