Spain: Two new outbreaks of sheep and goat pox are declared in Granada with 400 animals affected

With these two, the cases recorded in Andalusia amount to 13 (12 in the province of Granada and one in Almería). The suspicion arose from the appearance of lesions compatible with the disease in animals and the official veterinary services of the Junta de Andalucía proceeded immediately, following the established protocol, to take samples and send them to the Central Laboratory of Algete. The samples have been confirmed as positive by PCR-RT and sequencing for sheeppox virus. Immediately, the Ministry has adopted the control measures contemplated in the Delegated Regulation (EU) 2020/687 in relation to the rules related to the prevention and control of certain diseases, which includes the slaughter of animals, elimination of corpses in the processing plant, official cleaning and disinfection of the farm, establishment of a 3km protection zone and a 10km surveillance zone, with reinforcement of biosecurity and surveillance measures on the farms, as well as the application of ...
