From January to July, 160,175 live cattle were exported, generating US$ 138 million, a 5% decrease from the previous year. The average price per kilo stayed at US$ 2.71, with an increase in average weight to 332 kilos per animal. Exports included whole calves, steers, and pregnant heifers to Turkey, and heifers to Iraq. The live export market remains active, especially for whole calves. Exporter Olkany is buying pregnant Angus and Hereford heifers and empty Angus heifers for their first pregnancy. The export of replacement cattle is helping to stabilize the market ahead of spring.
