US corn sales fall

Foreign sales of corn fell in the seven days ended Jan. 19, while sales of beans and wheat improved, according to USDA data. Corn sales to foreign buyers last week were reported at 910,400 metric tons, the agency said in a report. This represents a 20% week-over-week decline, but a 46% increase from the previous four-week average. Mexico was the biggest buyer with 407,000 mt, followed by Colombia with 209,700 mt and an unnamed country with 84,500 mt, the government said. China bought 71.8 thousand tons and Canada took 35.4 thousand tons. The total would have been higher, but Honduras canceled shipments of 31,300 tonnes and Nicaragua canceled shipments of 5,000 tonnes. Exports for the week reached 912.6 thousand tons, 28% more than the previous week. Soybean sales, meanwhile, increased 16% week-on-week and 53% off the average to 1.15 million tonnes, the USDA said.
