The Voronezh Region in Russia is contemplating the implementation of a regional emergency regime due to unexpected frosty weather conditions in late April and early May, which have damaged a significant portion of their agricultural crops. The frost reached temperatures 8-10 degrees below zero, leading to the loss of up to 70 percent of fruit crop ovaries, potentially slashing the fruit and berry harvest in half. Over 2.6 thousand hectares of orchards and berry fields, which make up 44 percent of the total, have been affected, along with over 30 thousand hectares of crops. The regional government is working with the municipal authorities to assess the damage, and once the emergency regime is introduced, agricultural producers will be able to justify missed production targets and receive compensation for their lost harvests.
