Will prices for walnut kernels continue to decline in Moldova?

On the Moldovan market, for the first time in 2024, wholesale prices for walnut kernels decreased - by about 5%. Judging by EastFruit monitoring, last week traders purchased this product for an average of 95 lei/kg ($5.3/kg). This week the price has not changed yet. But market players do not rule out that closer to the weekend the price will be different, possibly both lower and higher, EastFruit reports. Intermediary buyers point to the fact that in February last year the price of walnut kernels in Moldova gradually decreased until the end of March. This year, given active export sales at fairly high prices in December and January, many operators expected that the same “market temperature” would continue throughout February. However, by the end of this month, according to Moldovan exporting traders, some of their European buying partners switched to purchasing American walnuts.
