Talk of tariffs is back on the agenda. Yes, because as of today, July 1st, 2026, the trade relationship between the European Union and the United States enters a new phase. Indeed, the tariff measures provided for in the agreement reached between Brussels and Washington in August 2025 are becoming operational, with effects also on some segments of the fruit and vegetable sector, in particular on dried fruit and certain categories of processed products. The novelty concerns the application of the tariff concessions approved by the European institutions and published in the Official Journal of the European Union. As the Council of the European Union has clarified, the measure implements the commitments contained in the joint EU-US declaration and aims to strengthen transatlantic trade cooperation, while also providing tools to protect the European market.
