Description
The average yield for shea nuts is 5000 -10000 metric tons per annum. The main harvesting season for the nuts falls in the months of June, July, August, September, October and November. The nuts are cultivated using natural methods of cultivation. The shea nuts are processed in and shipped from the main processing hub of shea nuts in Africa. The shea nut trees grow in areas with annual rainfall between 400 and 1,800 mm but can survive multi-year droughts as well as the usual 6 to the 8-month annual dry season. Shea nut trees grow up to 1,200 m above sea level in areas with a minimum temperature of 18°C and a high of 45°C. The shea nuts are cleaned and sun-dried after harvesting before packing and storing them.

Shea nuts are tree nuts used to produce shea nut butter, sometimes known as shea nut oil. This is refined, bleached and deodorized, and used primarily in confectionery products such as chocolate. Shea nut butter is also used in some cosmetics where the primary exposure would be skin contact. The nut itself is not eaten in most countries.
