The Greek 2022 kiwi season is on the way. The hot summer weather in Greece has been highly favourable for kiwi production. The only negative weather effect experienced so far in 2022 was the rains of early Spring which affected the flower pollination process. Thus, the 2022 season is expected to consist of a high percentage of small sized fruit. Roughly 75-80% of fruit for yellow varieties and 65-70% for the Hayward variety are expected to be size 33 to 42, which may leave markets such as the US not fully covered. Early green varieties, such as Green light and Tsechelidis, are expected to kick off in 20 days from now (8 September, 2022), depending on how cold the weather turns during the following days. Yellow varieties will be ready to harvest at the start of October with the Hayward harvest to follow no earlier than the 20th of October.
