W14: Tuna Update

Tridge's global market analysts and country representatives look into what happened in W14 in the global tuna landscape. In summary, Spain's canned seafood industry experienced a 7.6% YoY decline in production in 2022, but a 5.7% increase in value due to inflation, with tuna being the leading product. In Mexico, tuna and shrimp production is expected to reach 137KT and 251KT in 2022, ensuring the supply of domestically produced fish and shellfish for Easter. Lastly, Vietnam's seafood exports reached USD 1.4B by mid-March 2023, down by 28% over the same period in 2022. Estimated exports in the Q1 of 2023 will reach about USD 1.85B, down by 27% compared to the Q1 of 2022. In particular, tuna exports decreased by 33% in Vietnam due to inflation and economic slowdown.
