Mexico Will Send Up to 130K Tons of Avocados to the United States for the Super Bowl (Jan 18)
The Association of Avocado Exporters Producers and Packers of Mexico (Apeam) reported that Mexican producers will send up to 130K tons of avocado to the United States market for the 57th edition of the Super Bowl. From the main avocado exporting state, Michoacán, the producers sent the first 64,101 tons of the fruit to the celebrations of the Super Bowl. This season the confidence of foreign producers, packers, and consumers is recovered, increasing the number of tons for export, seeking to export 130K tons of avocados.
Peru
A Positive Start to the Campaign for the Peruvian Avocado (Jan 22)
The Peruvian avocado has been the main Peruvian product exported to the international market for several years. However, in 2022 it was surpassed by blueberries. The current campaign started in December 2022 and runs until October 2023, and it seems to be heading upwards. In W2 2023, Peru shipped a total of 634 tons of fresh avocados, which was 32% less than the same week last season. Despite this, until W2, the accumulated total of the 2022/23 campaign amounts to 2,716 tons, an increase of 3% compared to the previous season. The main destinations for this product are China, with a 29% share, the Netherlands, with 23%, and the United States, with 19%. Unlike last season, in this same period, Russia led the list, with a participation of 36%, but due to the conflicts that arose in the middle of 2022, this country was losing participation during this early stage. So far this season, the avocado has only been sent by sea.
Indonesia
The Demand for Avocado in Indonesia Is Projected to Increase During 2023 (Jan 19)
In Indonesia, the local demand for avocados is forecasted to increase in 2023 due to customers’ better awareness of healthy diets. Indonesian end-customers preference for avocados is ripening 95% and fruit size 200-250 grams/pcs. In 2022, Indonesia imported 48.25 MT of avocados from Australia, New Zealand, and the United States via air freight to Jakarta as the destination to serve middle to high-end supermarkets. However, at the same time, Indonesia also exports local production to neighboring countries such as Brunei, East Timor, Malaysia, Singapore, Hong Kong, Maldives, UAE, and Qatar. Indonesian total avocado export in 2022 reached 483.8 MT.
Kenya
Traders Get Two Weeks to Export Avocado in Off-Season Period (Jan 19)
In Kenya, the Horticulture Directorate has opened a two-week window for the export of off-season mature avocados following the closure of exports in November 2022, this will allow farmers and orchards that have mature avocados to export the fruits within the time frame.

Tanzania Agricultural Research Institute Aims to Produce 20M Avocado Seedlings in 2023 (Jan 16)
Tanzania Agricultural Research Institute (TARI) intends to produce 20M improved avocado seedlings in the 2022/23 season, which will be sold to farmers at a subsidized price of USD 0.85 (Tsh 2,000) per seedling to encourage the cultivation of the crop. This initiative intends to enhance avocado production in Tanzania as the demand for avocados is increasing both domestically and internationally, with China being a large potential market for the commodity.
United States
Good Quality of Mexican Avocado in the United States Market During W2 (Jan 17)
The United States market has a good supply of Mexican avocados in W2, and more are ready to harvest. Good volumes are seen in all sizes, especially the 32s, 48s, and 60s, with good quality and stable pricing. As the Super Bowl event approaches on February 12, 2023, pricing may increase due to demand increasing.
Stable Volumes of Avocados in the United States Market During W3 (Jan 20)
The avocado volume continues to be stable in the United States market. Smaller avocados of the 60s and 70s have tightened up as this size was strongly promoted at retail, while 48s and larger are dominant in W3, with overall good quality and steady prices. With the upcoming Super Bowl event on February 12th, pricing could increase due to the increasing demand.
