Increased Demand and Low Supply of Honeydew in Canada During W6 (Feb 10)

In Canada, the demand for honeydew melons remains high and exceeds the supply of fruit from Central America and Mexico. In W6, the low supply doesn't cover the demand for honeydew. Wholesalers raised prices by about 5% MoM per unit to around USD 8.99 CAD/2 honeydew melons.

EU Relaxes Regulations for Melons From Honduras (Feb 6)

The European Commission has relaxed controls on melons from Honduras. Due to the updated legislation on the rate of official controls and emergency measures for food and non-animal origin imported into Europe. These rules are updated every six months. Based on the notifications throughout the Rapid Alert System for Food and Feed (RASFF) portal and on information from a documentary, identity, and physical checks carried out by Member States in the first part of 2022. The requirements for controls on 10% of Galia melons from Honduras, which were introduced in January 2022 after an outbreak of Salmonella Braenderup in several countries, have been removed.

Agricultural Products From Vietnam Are Flooding to China, Prices of Many Fruits Have Increased (Feb 11)

China reopened and removed Covid-19 prevention and control measures at the border gate for imported goods, such as watermelon, dragon fruit, banana, rambutan, and jackfruit from the South, facilitating the exports of fruits and vegetables from Vietnam to China. According to the Border Gate Management Board, in January 2023, the total export value of imports and exports throughout the Lao Cai border gate reached nearly USD 82M (exported USD 48.3M USD, imported USD 33.3M).
