Plastic Ban in France Affects The Eggplant Price in Spain

The wholesale price of eggplant in Spain dropped by -17.22% YoY. The price was valued at USD 1.15/kg in W3 Feb-22, which was USD 1.4/kg in the same period in 2021. France has imposed regulations for fruit and vegetable items, including eggplant, which can no longer be sold in plastic. This impacts the Spanish eggplant export when it is difficult to switch packaging to recyclable materials in a short time. For that reason, the Spanish eggplant's oversupply in the domestic market led the price to drop in Feb-22.
