The wholesale price of sesame seeds in China fell -17.13% YoY to 1.88 USD/KG in W4 December 2021. China relies on more sesame seeds supply from African countries. Its import value increased in 2020 to 1.4B USD due to high demand during the Covid-19 pandemic. However, there was less supply of African white sesame seeds for export in 2021. Less production, ongoing war, also port closures forced China to seek other suppliers of sesame seeds to meet their high year-end demand. Meanwhile, China purchased sesame seeds from Vietnam at low prices due to poor quality which also made prices on the domestic market fall in December 2021.
